Lucky Chestnut is inspired by a spotless, opinionated Appaloosa gelding. I first met Clifford in 2022, and quickly learned that he had a set of requirements that I would have to meet if things were going to work out. Chiefly among these requirements were tokens of good faith (treaties). Cliff had a bit of a rough go for a few years, because of this he was exhibiting resource guarding traits and other not so fun behaviors.
As our time spent together increased, so did my treat bill and attention to commercial treat ingredients. Our relationship strengthened, and it showed in Cliff’s behavior. He went from a horse that people were warned against, to a horse with golden retriever energy. While he’s still a complicated fellow; love, consistency, boundaries, and many many treats transformed him.
I spent a lot of time thinking about the sugars, fillers and highly processed ingredients I was seeing in many commercial treats. Though there are a lot of really wonderful horse treats on the market, I wasn’t able to find a treat that combined all of the elements I was looking for. So I decided it was time to make my own!
At Lucky Chestnut, we want horse people to feel really good about the treats they give their horses. Our aim is to combine premium, tasty ingredients with beneficial nutrients inspired by horses' dietary needs and the flavors that make them happiest.
With love,

Meet Clifford, Lucky Chestnut Poster Child
Foaled in Ohio in 2011, Cliff spent his first 7-8 years in Ohio and Michigan as a Hunter/Jumper. Cliff is 100% Appaloosa (with papers and everything) though you might not be able to tell by looking at him. He’s almost completely solid, except for some spotting on his right hind pastern and some almost imperceptible varnishing.
Besides the obvious love of treats (eating in general really), Cliff loves to spend time with his best friends in turnout, scratches on his chin and withers, jumping, and exploring his true identity as a pony.
